In April 1995, Don Kinser, Milt Aitken, Doug Werth & Steve Frazier made a pilgrimage to the whitewater holy land of West Virginia. On this day, we met up with Joe Greiner and ran the Cheat River for the first time.

The nasty yellow on the rocks is sulfur acid mine drainage from coal mines that were not sealed correctly. That run off killed everything in the river. As of 2022, after much effort and mitigation by Friends of the Cheat and the federal government, fish once again thrive in the river.
