March 1996 – Milt Aitken, Don Kinser & Steve Frazier spent a few days paddling in the Obed system. This is the section of the Obed with the Esses, which are very tricky to navigate cleanly in a big boat.

We camped that night on the bluff at Lily Bridge , which was allowed back then. Before we crashed, we looked for the comet Hyakutake, by looking for a bright dot with a tail. We didn’t see it. But when I got up in the middle of the night I realized why… The tail was almost the whole sky! Apparently, the tail was very close to Earth.
