Nolan Whitesell Canoes Niagara Gorge – The ONLY Open Canoe Run Ever!

In 1987, after a long legal battle, a judge ordered the State of New York to issue boating permits for Niagara Gorge.  Nolan Whitesell, Risa Shimoda and Woody Callaway obtained one of those fleetingly rare permits which were only issued for a few weeks and have never been issued again.  Thus, Nolan Whitesell became the first and only person to navigate the gigantic turbulence of the Gorge with waves up to 30 feet tall.
