May 18, 1996 – I hiked into the Hairy Bear Creek in Cloudland Canyon to scout it for a future run. You can see the bones of rapids like Surreal Pillow and Stairway to Heaven. These are the bedrock rapids, which, despite their appearance, are cleaner than the boulder rapids downstream. Unfortunately, the occasion for me to paddle it never arose.
