2017 – This creek is a little strange. It’s on old sedimentary rock made of resistant layers like sandstone and shale. As a result, it tends to stay slow and level for a little ways, the break through a layer of rock in a waterfall. Many drops are stairstep like as the water breaks through resistant rock layers. There are 3 significant waterfalls in the gorge. Powder Hole is the most well known of the falls, called that because black powder mills were there in the 19th century. This is a Class 5 run.
